How Four Fires began:

We started this meadery out of a garage as four friends experimenting with mead making. Eventually we reached a crossroads where we felt that we needed to share the meads that we as a collective were making. Thus the motivation and inspiration for Four Fires Meadery was born.

Now, a few years in, this meadery has become not only a great source of pride and joy for us, but it will also be the first meadery in Toledo, Ohio…which is pretty cool!  Our main objectives are to support and give back to our local community, produce the best possible products with a focus on continual improvement, and to assist and promote the spreading of mead knowledge.

So, what’s in a name? We derive our name from the original native tribes of northwest Ohio and the surrounding areas; the Chippewa, the Ottawa and the Potawatomi. In 796 AD the three tribes decided to work together and The Council of Three Fires (tribes) was created. So where did we get Four Fires? Well there are four of us, hence, Four Fires!
